It works best if you have a gas cooktop. I've made this recipe 20+ times. Old electric stove was inconsistent . If you don't get it to 290 you'l wind up with sticky, crown-destroying concoction that is also too gooey to handle. Keep the heat to medium flame , be patient, have a bowl that is big enough to mix without spilling the hot mixture everywhere, don't be tempted to add more popped corn and you'Lloyd agree with those 5* raters!

I made a 1/2 batch for the first time using one 3.2 oz. bag of Pop Secret Homestyle microwave popcorn and 1 c. of pecan halves. I too stopped cooking at 260 degrees and it came out great. Definitely pick thru the corn carefully to remove ALL unpopped kernels.

The end result of this recipe is more like caramel corn/peanut brittle not like poppycock...should be light coloured maybe to soft ball stage instead of hard crack stage...

This is the best ever poppycock recipe! I will sometimes add a half cup of maple syrup to enhance the flavor of the maple. If you try this you will not go back to your original recipe!

the glaze tastes just like the poppycock original. I used the oven,and I think next time I'll bake the popcorn longer. I also need to find a better popcorn.
