I enjoyed the taste. I added a bit more brown sugar. Although I simmered for over 90 minutes, the final product was watery. If there is a way to thicken this without sacrificing the savor, I'm all for it.

After 90 minutes beans were still soupy so I brought them from a simmer to a boil and stirrred every 5 minutes until they were proper consistency. I LOVE El Pollo Loco black beans and these were pretty darn close. Will definitely make them again, noting Inc temp at end.

Wasn't too sure about the liquid amounts indicated but followed them anyway. Someone fell asleep at the switch on this one! After simmering for 90 mins. it was still the wateriest soup I've ever seen let alone being able to use in a burrito or side dish. Slurp, don't scarf. I'll probably throw the entire thing away since I see no way to salvage it.
If you try this recipe DO NOT add any water at the very least. Doubt if I'll try to make this again even w/o water. What a disaster!!!!!!
