I haven't had the original either, but these were great as a side dish with our pork chops. The only change I made was in the method... I used Baker's Joy to spray my muffin tin, and didn't use the parchment paper/butter combo. They came right out of the pan, ready to bake the 2nd time.

Don’t know what the original version tastes like, but I love this recipe! Being nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside just adds to the taste! The only change I made was to just about double the pepper and I used 1 tsp of salt plus maybe a pinch more, which still didn’t over power the dish. I kept them overnight in the fridge and set some out for a bit as directed before baking. Don’t know if they can be frozen or not, but they won’t be around long enough for me to find out! The parchment paper cut outs are a great idea, but I think I’ll invest in a protractor to make the circles for future batches.
