As you try this Chips Ahoy! copycat cookie recipe, imagine producing a quarter of a million cookies and crackers every minute. That's what Nabisco does. Which is why the conglomerate is the largest manufacturer of cookies and crackers in the world. Chips Ahoy! Chocolate Chip Cookies were developed in 1964, along with Chicken In A Biscuit Crackers and Mister Salty Pretzels. But Chips Ahoy! became the big winner for the company. Today it's the world's top-selling chocolate-chip cookie, with more than 6 billion sold every year.

  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • One 12-ounce bag mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
Do This

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shortening, and sugars and blend with an electric mixer until smooth.

3. Add the salt, vanilla, and baking soda.

4. While beating at low speed, slowly add the flour. Then add the water. Mix thoroughly. Stir in the chocolate chips. Add extra water to dough if needed to make it stick together.

5. Form the cookies by breaking off bits of dough and patting them out with your fingers into 2-inch rounds about 1/8 inch thick.

6. Place the cookies on ungreased cookie sheets lined with release foil, and bake for 12 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown on the top and around the edges.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Made this for the first time. I actually made mini ones, using about a tsp of dough and a really small cookie cutter to mold the cookie. Next time, not so many chocolate chips and maybe a smaller batch.. this one made about 180 cookies, lol. As far as the recipe.. I followed it to the letter, and as mentioned in other reviews, let my stand mixer mix/whip the shortening and sugars for 5 minutes on about a 7 speed. It was so fluffy and smooth, there’s absolutely no way these cookies would end up hard. I still baked them for 12 minutes, and they were perfect!

If you have baking skills and can follow directions and be precise with your measurements, you'll love this recipe. Very addicting so beware!

    Fuddruckers Hamburger Seasoning

    For 25 years, Fuddruckers has been serving huge, cooked-when-ordered beef patties on freshly baked buns. You decorate your hamburger creation with sliced tomato, onions, lettuce, pickles, peppers, relish and whatever else is offered at the toppings bar. Everyone builds their burger differently, yet the company claims these are "The World's Greatest Hamburgers." What makes them so good? Fuddruckers boasts that it uses only 100% USDA choice, aged ground beef. 

    What Fuddruckers won't tell you is which secret ingredients make up the delicious burger seasoning used on each of those patties. After analyzing a sample of the blend used in the shakers back by the griddle, I've come up with this simple Fuddruckers Hamburger Seasoning copycat recipe which you can now mix up at home, and pour into an empty shaker bottle. Sprinkle it onto 1/3- or 1/2-pound ground beef patties just before they cook, then grab some fresh buns in the bakery section of your store. Add your choice of other fresh toppings, and you'll soon have a hamburger clone that tastes just like those served at the more than 230 Fuddruckers.

    Perkins Family Restaurants Potato Pancakes

    When Matt and Ivan Perkins tasted the food at Smitty's Pancake House in Seattle, they were smitten. Soon they had purchased the rights to William Smith's recipes, which had been perfected at his renowned restaurant that opened just after the end of World War II. In 1958, the brothers opened their own Smitty's restaurants in Cincinnati, Ohio, and eventually changed the name from Smitty's to Perkins.

    If you've never tried potato pancakes from Perkins, or any restaurant, now's the time with this copycat recipe. I've given you the option to make the potatoes with frozen hash brown potatoes or with fresh potatoes you shred by hand. It's up to you. Use maple syrup on these hotcakes, or go for a little butter and powdered sugar on top.

    T.G.I. Friday's Potato Skins

    Menu Description: "Loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon. Served with sour cream and chives."

    Perfume salesman Alan Stillman was a single guy in New York City in 1965, looking for a way to meet women who lived in his neighborhood. He figured out a way to get their attention: buy a broken-down beer joint in the area, jazz it up, and call it "The T.G.I.F." to attract the career crowd. Within a week, police had barricaded the area to control crowds flocking to Alan's new restaurant. The restaurant made $1 million in its first year—a lot of dough back then. Soon restaurateurs across the country were imitating the concept.

    In 1974 T.G.I. Friday's invented an appetizer that would also be copied by many in the following years. Potato skins are still the most popular item on the T.G.I.     Carl's Jr. Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich

    This is a simple fast food sandwich to clone, and it's one of my favorites to make at home. This sandwich has been around since March of 1991, and has been a popular choice at Carl's Jr. outlets dotting the western United States. 

    Chicken fillets are marinated in teriyaki sauce and grilled. The chicken is then stacked on a whole wheat bun along with American cheese, lettuce, mild green chili peppers and a spicy southwestern-style spread.     Update 1/13/17: For an improved recipe, replace the 1/2 cup shortening with 3/4 cup softened unsalted butter. Also, reduce the baking soda to 1 1/2 teaspoons. 2 teaspoons is too much. Also, raising the oven temperature a little—to 300 degrees F—will help with browning and still keep the cookies chewy. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes.

    GrandMa's Oatmeal Raisin Big Cookies

    GrandMa's Cookie Company was founded back in 1914 by Foster Wheeler, but it wasn't until 1977 that the company introduced the popular Big Cookie. This large, soft cookie comes two to a pack and is offered in several varieties, including oatmeal raisin. Now you can bake up a couple batches of your own with my GrandMa's oatmeal raisin cookies copycat recipe. Just be sure not to over bake these. You want the cookies soft and chewy when cool—just like a happy grandma would make. Be sure to take the cookies out of the oven when they are just beginning to turn light brown around the edges.
