I worked for Lone Star many years ago and fell in love with this soup. I have used this recipe as is making almost no changes. I had to drop the onion due to the fact that my husband is allergic` but I did not even miss the onions. This tastes exactly like the original, the only thing not shown here in the recipe, is that this soup was served with a thick cut slice of dark rye bread. Absolutely delicious!

I specifically searched for the Lone Star black bean soup because, for years, it was my favorite. But I don't think they even serve it in their restaurants anymore. The truth is I don't remember what it tastes like. But I'm sure this MUST be it!! Lol! Anyway, this is now my favorite. Thank you for the recipe.

I've been making this soup ever since it came out in the Top Secret Recipes book. It's my favorite black bean soup recipe, and it's SO easy!

This came out pretty good, even though I couldn't find my cider vinegar (replaced it with a bit of white vinegar and some juice from the pickled jalapenos). I also dropped the cayenne and used no-salt-added pinto beans instead of black beans. The leftovers made a great base for chili. :D

I have used this recipe for years. I got it from the book. I get so many people asking me to make this and for the recipe. I will also sometimes thicken the soup up and use it as a dip. I usually double or triple the recipe because kids and adults love it so much. Thank you!!
