When I discovered that Todd had a recipe for El Pollo Loco chicken in his 1994 book, "MORE Top Secret Recipes", I immediately bought the book. This was pre-internet, and I had been searching for a clone recipe for this awesome grilled chicken for many years. I tried several, and none came even remotely close... until THIS ONE! Todd NAILED IT, and I've been making this delicious recipe for over 25 years! The marinade is deceptively simple, but it really brings great taste to the chicken. I recommend making it "as written", and grilling over indirect heat (two level fire) so as not to burn the skin. THANKS TODD!!!!

I love El Pollo Loco but moved out of California and there are none around where I live now. I have tried four different knock off version of their chicken recipe and none have come anywhere close this recipe was awesome and just about spot on if not totally spot on! So happy can recreate my favorite chicken tacos now. So happy!

This recipe duplicates the chicken's taste!!!!! Do Not deviate or it will throw off the taste of the finished product.

Bullseye! This clone does it! The taste of the chicken, is almost exact! The El Pollo Loco Salsa Recipe, is just that good, too!
Great job, Todd!

Forget the lime juice and reduce water to 1 cup and use one cup pineapple juice, It'll step it up acee.

While this was good, it was not even close to El Pollo. Keep trying, I love EPL

Since we moved from California to Tennessee, I've been craving El Pollo Loco! In desperation, I tried this recipe. When I combined the ingredients as directed, I thought, "This isn't going to work--this looks to watery to be a decent marinade." Wow, was I wrong!! It does taste just like El Pollo Loco!

Recipe for this marinade turned very bland and there is obviously something missing. Will not use again.
