There aren't any Cracker Barrel restaurants where I live up here in the Adirondack mountains, but I was so intrigued to make this just based on all of the absolutely gushing reviews! Oh! Oh! Oh! This was great! I couldn't source the Coby cheese (it's all Colby Jack up here) so I shredded down a block of Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese instead and it came out of the oven so bubbly, tender, and delicious! The top browned up quite nicely without using the broiler and the aroma in my kitchen was heavenly. If you use Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese like I did, consider cutting the 3/4 teaspoon of salt down to maybe 1/2 teaspoon so that the cheddar cheese doesn't make the recipe more salty than Todd has intended. I'll be making this again and again!

Turned out nicely but don’t use a regular cast iron skillet as a good portion of the mixture will stick to and cover the bottom of the skillet.

I have made this recipe many times (somtimes swapping chicken broth with beef broth even because of a co-worker that doesn't eat beef). It turns out AWESOME!

I developed my own version of Cracker Barrel’s Hashbrown casserole a few years back and is a huge hit in our family. I’m a foodie and I knew there was something in the potatoes that was of a meaty flavor and that there was neither any sour cream nor cream of mushroom in it which most copycat recipes seem to add. This recipe is equally as good as the one we make! Mine has a ham flavor base instead. Thank you for this recipe!

Was very good. Tasted great, used cheddar cheese because it's what I had. Stuck to the pan though, but a little soaking and it should be fine.

I don't think it could be any closer to the original.

Made this for group dinner. All liked it. All was eaten. I will use just a little more salt, and cheese and a lot more onions for my personal taste.
