Here's an updated version of the Olive Garden Alfredo Pasta recipe from Top Secret Restaurant Recipes that includes more grated Parmesan cheese and fresh garlic instead of garlic powder. You'll find this sauce thickens easier and has an improved Olive Garden taste. Just be sure not to crank the heat up too high when simmering the sauce or it could break, resulted in a not-so-creamy, curdled Alfredo.

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups heavy cream
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Pinch salt
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 12-ounce box fettuccine pasta
(or your choice of pasta)

1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium/low heat.

2. Add the garlic, cream, pepper and salt, and bring mixture to a simmer. Turn the heat down if the mixture reaches a rapid boil or it could boil over. You just want a simmer. Add the cheese, and continue to simmer the sauce for 8 minutes or until thick.

3. While the sauce cooks, bring 4 to 6 quarts of water to a boil and add the pasta. Cook pasta for about 12 minutes or until done, then drain it.

4. Spoon pasta onto serving plates with Alfredo sauce poured over the top.

Makes 2 to 3 large servings.

My husband and I LOVE this alfredo sauce! 100x better than Olive Garden! Very easy to make! I always double the Parmesan cheese, and add some freshly grated Romano. We make this all the time! We always add diced chicken to it.

I halved the recipe as there are only two in the house, and reheating alfredo sauce changes it. As for the flavor, it was the only reason I ever wanted to go to Olive Garden, well, this and the breadsticks! Freshly grated Parmesan works best; so does fresh garlic, though powdered works well enough if that's all you have. I'm a purist...just the noodles and sauce, thank you. Love it!

So I always read the reviews on sites and wonder if they're true or if it's just sites writing their own reviews lol well I have to say that this recipe is amazing!! I can not stand the store bought jars of alfredo so I wanted to try and make my own and holy cow I will definitely make this again! It also got a stubborn and picky teenager say that she LOVED IT!

I omitted the heavy cream and used half and half instead and it was AMAZING!!! My 17yr old son who is a diehard Olive Garden fan said it tasted just like the Olive Garden, make a pot of Zuppa Toscana and you've got a great meal!

I tried this recipe and it was Farley close.... One thing I can say is I do know for a fact olive garden uses fresh garlic and the parmesean cheese is grated finely off a fresh block pepper is not added.

My girlfriend made this for me on our anniversary, and ever sense this is the only Alfredo Sauce I can eat. I have eaten bottled sauce from stores but nothing is better than this recipe when it comes to homemade Alfredo Sauce.

I didn't have heavy cream, so I used 2 cups of whole milk. slowly simmered the sauce and then I took 1 TBS of flour placed it in a bowl and added just enough sauce to create a rue. I then added 1/2 the mixture back into the sauce, brought it to a slight simmer/boil to thicken the sauce. It turned out great!!

This seems to be a standard alfredo recipe, it lacks 1 mail ingredient... fresh grated nutmeg. Plus definitely needed more parmesan cheese, which I substituted parm/Romano for. Passed the pasta loving kids scrutiny, so overall a decent recipe.

Very yummy! I used a little bit more parmesan and garlic then it called for and added mozzerella and it was very good. I had this plain over Buitoni mushroom ravioli but it would be very good with carmelized onion, sauteed mushroom, sundried tomatoes and chicken.

This was just like Olive Garden! I was so surprised. My kids love Alfredo and I've never made it homemade. I did also add more Parmesan cheese to it but that's personal preference. Would recommend this recipe highly. We will be enjoying this in our home again.

Made exactly as written....perfect. My fiancé was blown away. I was going to add more cheese and he stopped me stating that this sauce was the best he's ever tasted. If its too thin, just let it simmer for a bit longer. Served with sautéed garlic shrimp and fresh baby spinach sautéed in garlic and olive oil. EASY! But everyone will think youre a culinary genius :)

This recipe is amazing. I sauteed some sliced mushrooms and thin chicken breasts as an addition to the pasta. I followed the recipe pretty closely but doubled everything to make more servings. I added a bit more parmesean and garlic for a bit more flavor. I mixed the mushrooms, chicken, and pasta together once everything was done. This was superb. Def will make again!!

I made this for a party and everyone loved it. Even my husband who is super picky. I did add an additional 1/2 cup of cheese and 4 Tb of whole milk because I had extra cheese. I added steamed broccoli and chicken. I always avoid making creamy sauces because mine always curdle but this worked perfectly.

I made this for supper with leftover seasoned grilled chicken and it was so good! I did substitute ingredients to make it healthier. Used 1/2 stick of butter and replaced the rest with olive oil. I used 1 cup of low fat whipping cream and 1 cup 2% milk. It still was incredibly good even with the substitutions! I will be making this again!

The flavor of this sauce was definitely restaurant quality. I sauteed some chicken and mushrooms to top the pasta, and boy was it ever good! My only complaint was that my sauce got lumpy, so I either had the heat too high when I added the cheese, or I should have followed my instincts and let the sauce simmer and thicken first, then removed from heat and allowed the cheese to melt in just before serving. I'll have to try that next time.

I let the parmesan settle to the bottom of the pot, and even though it wasn't boiling, I ended up burning the sauce and it tasted horrible! But then I tried it a second time, using extra caution on the cooking process, and it tasted great.

I made this Alfredo sauce today and it was absolutely awesome. I doubled it, and I added oregano, substituted black pepper for ground white pepper, I used 5-6 cloves of garlic, and added a dash of garlic powder. I also blackened some chicken breast in olive oil and added the chicken breast to the sauce. I also simmered the sauce for about 30 minutes instead of 8. My finicky 8 year old son said it was delicious and asked for seconds.

I've tried to do Alfredo sauce before, but the recipes I've found have all fallen short. This one, however, is so good, I really don't have words for it!! Absolute Heaven on a plate! i added broccoli to the pasta water while cooking and sautéed rotisserie chicken in the garlic butter before adding half cream half half and half.used 1cup of grated parm and mixed all together before serving. Topped wth grated parm.

I boiled the pasta with the garlic. It flavors the pasta well. Small tweaks made. I used Chilli Flakes and Oregano while cooking the sauce. and then added pasta to the sauce and cooked the pasta in it. My family loved it. Thank you.

I make this recipe at least once a week. When I ask my family what they want for dinner, it is always the same answer... make your own fettuccini alfredo. I use this recipe as the base and on the side I make grilled chicken, sautéed shrimp, sautéed mushrooms and steamed broccoli. This recipe exceeded my expectations. I used 2 tsp garlic powder instead of the cloves. At least it tasted too garlicky for my taste so I added another 1/2 of grated Parmesan cheese. I doubled this recipe and it was PERFECT also added chicken breast the only thing was I did simmer the sauce for about 25 minutes but this will definitely be a usual in our dinners my husband and son loved it, it topped my sons favorite foods coming in 2nd to pizza! I think anyone who didn't like this recipe has to take in mind your ingredients cant be of low quality that goes for all recipes and good pots and pans also have a lot to do with how food turns out.

I live south of New Orleans so I was nervous about this recipe being bland, though it's hard to screw up Alfredo. My boyfriend and I nearly licked the pot! I'll definitely be making this in the future! PS. I had to add the entire package of Parm cheese to make it thick enough.

Great Recipe! My husband and I are avid alfredo lovers we have tried and eaten our fair share of alfredo sauce recipes....we have found a good one here and there- but this was easy as pie and I like my sauce not to thick or thin and this was just right-I don't know how thick other reviewers like their sauce but to me it was great consistency. I Cooked Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo and Shrimp Alfredo. My fiancee said it taste better than when I use the Barillo Jar Alfredo Sauce. My Fiancee, Daughter and her girlfriend Loved Dinner!!!!! No More Store Bought Alfredo Sauce!!!!! Only Todd Wiibur's Alfredo Sauce from here on out!!!!!!!

omg...This is amazing. Only thing to note it takes like 30-40 mins for it to thicken not 8 mins. I also add more parm to thicken. I always get the frozen breadsticks and just sprinkle salt on them (since thats all og does) and its AMAZING!

How could you go wrong with cream, butter, and cheese? So much fat to make it delicious! This was a quick, easy recipe and I will definitely make it again. I added some chicken seasoned with salt and pepper and served with garlic bread and a salad. It says it makes 2 - 3 large portions, but I couldn't imagine eating 1/2 to 1/3 of what was made in 1 sitting. I'm definitely getting about 6 decent portions out of this.

I doubled the recipe, and used 1.75 sticks of butter instead of 2, based on previous reviews. I accidently grabbed the romano instead of parmesan (shredded) and used it and it turned out EXTREMELY FLAVORFUL. So scrumptious and so easy. Was NOT runny at all; it was the perfect consistency but I cooked it a long time before adding the cheese. My sister's family, who I am staying with for three weeks, asked me to stay permanently based on today's cooking.

Sooo good! I added cooked chicken and steamed broccoli and it was delicious!!! I didn't need a thickening agent, I just simmered it on medium low and stirred it constantly, then turned it off and let it sit for a few minutes and it it came out perfect! It wasn't too rich either. Definitely a keeper!

TO Laura "too much butter" 11/13 I always use a hand held blender when making an Alfredo sauce. It helps to break down the butter and makes it that much more creamy. I haven't tried this version yet, but others I've tried have turned out fine when I do this. I can't wait to try this one!

I've been making this Alfredo for my boys for years. They absolutely love it. It isn't as thick as what you get at a restaurant but I make it so that it just slurps on the noodles. I try to go the extra mile and make it with cream but if we have 2% milk that's what I use. No one has every complained. And I got a homemade pasta maker for Christmas. Can't even begin to describe the flavor!

Great recipe. Husband doesn't like Alfredo sauce so I asked if he would try homemade, he agreed. Sure glad he did he loved it. So glad I tried it added 3 large sliced mushrooms and 3 scallions sliced on the diagonal to the butter garlic to cook for a few minutes. I then added shrimp when they were done I removed then from the pan and continued on with the recipe. When it was almost done I added back the cooked items to just warm. Husband was so impressed he said we need to have this again...SOON.

I absolutely love this recipe. I added diced chicken and shrimp (precooked) to the alfredo. For the chicken I seasoned it with season salt, garlic powder and pepper. For the shrimp, I sauteed it in a little butter and Old Bay seasoning and placed to the side until I finished the alreado sauce. Once it was completed I added the meat and let it simmer on low. Delicious!!! Great with hot garlic bread.

Got a recipe from someone who used to work at OG - he said use parm cheese and romano cheese. Makes sense as that's what they put on top when they bring it to you. Romano makes a big difference!

I rarely follow recipes to a T...I used this as a guideline, subbing a half a tub of Philadelphia cream cheese for the 2nd cup of heavy cream. I melted the butter first then sprinkled it with garlic powder (to taste), the slightest dash of ground nutmeg and a dash of ground Cayenne pepper. I added the cream cheese until it 'melted', then whisked in the cream & freshly grated Parmesan (never cut cost on cheese or buy it already grated/shredded...it loses the taste almost immediately).

This recipe is Better than OG's. For those who say it's too runny, just cook it longer... that will thicken it up. Don't sub milk for the cream, that will also make it runny. I never make this without some kind of meat After melting the butter, I put in chicken or shrimp, coated with garlic and onion powder, and cook until done, remove the meat, then continue on with the recipe. Also, I add the cooked pasta right into the pan with the sauce, then add back the meat, stir together.

I always read reviews before trying a recipe to see what needs to be tweaked before doing it. I was surprised when I made it because there was way too much butter- it wouldn't incorporate into the cream no matter how much I whisked it. We had to let it settle so we could soak up all the grease with a piece of bread, and even then there was too much. I didn't see any reviews mention this. Did anyone else have this problem? I would recommend only using half the butter the recipe calls for.

I noticed a few people complained about saltiness, but I use unsalted butter in most recipes to keep track of how much salt goes into my dishes. (I just add it to my tastes) I also added around 1/4 cup of cream cheese. I used about 1/8 tsp. Salt and a pinch of pepper. (Im only guessing on the measurements)

I've been searching and trying out different alfredo sauce recipes. This recipe is by far the best one so far. Very easy to make and tastes amazing. I do confess that I added 1/4 cup of lemon juice to this recipe. For all those that commented that this sauce was missing that something something, but couldn't figure out what, I recommend adding lemon juice like I did.

This is comfort food at its best! I took the recommendations of others and thickened the sauce with a cornstarch roux. I have a husband and 3 teenage boys to feed so I added broccoli florets, 16 oz bag of shrimp, and 8 ounces of imitation crab flakes. I sauteed about 2/3 cups of finely diced white onion to the butter and garlic (2-3 tablespoons of minced garlic from a jar). I also doubled the cheese. Fantastic! This is a new addition to our dinner routine line up. Couldn't have made it without Todd

Highly recommend this recipe. You will not be disappointed. Following instructions exactly made it so simple to make. The taste was tremendous. Made it for Sunday dinner and it was a hit with the family. The only thing I recommend is if you are going to make double do 2 batches of the sauce and separate the batches in 2 plates. Already gave my co-workers the simple recipe.

I've made this several times already and everyone who tries it loves it! After reading the reviews I use Parmesan cheese from a bag, not a "can" like you put on pizza. Also, I add a tad bit of corn starch, no salt, and double the amount of cheese.

This dish is awsome!!!! I tweaked it a little by tripling the cheese and I used white pepper instead of black. No extra salt because I used salted butter. We Seasoned chicken breast with cajun spices and grilled outside then tossed with pasta and sauce to complete the meal. This will definatly be a regular at our house.

This recipe is amazing. It's very simple, and can easily be changed to your liking. I added 1 cup of fresh parmesan, extra salt and pepper, and half a teaspoon more garlic. The texture stayed the same. I recommend buttering the noodles before adding the sauce. Right as the noodles are finished, place a pat of butter on the plate, and then toss a serving on noodles on the butter until coated. (Use more or less to your liking)

OG uses no salt for this recipe.They also add what they call "white sauce mix", flour mix of some sort. It's white pepper not black.Parm/reg cheese and lots of it. Not minced garlic , it's finer like garlic paste.

I have found that a parmesan-romano blend of cheese helps improve the bland flavor. I also saute about 1/2 of an onion (cut finely, not chopped)and add it to the sauce before simmering. These changes really improve the blandness.

I have recently started a new tradition at our home and every Wed. night is Italian night, with the homemade food, glass of wine, candles and the whole bit. Busy lives of today can't eat together every night of the week, or we can't anyway so this was a way for us to be together. It's been a blast. My menu for tomorrow night's dinner is Fettuccine Alfredo, shrimp scampi, of course the great salad(my recipe), french bread and artichoke dip. So....I'm trying this sauce tomorrow but after reading reviews, I will adding more garlic, fresh shredded parmesan and I'm thinking a little red pepper. We'll see....

Enjoyed it very much. To make it a little lower on calories I traded out one cup of the cream for one cup of milk and added 1 tbsp of cornstarch to thicken it (the milk kinda thins it out). I also added rotiserie chicken, more garlic and more parmesan for more flavor, cause it is a little bland. But still really good and easy!

I was really looking forward to this as I'm an American living in England and can't get this dish. I am somewhat disappointed. It's the best fet alfredo I've made at home, but it doesn't taste like OG's version. I was an employee there so I have a good idea of what it tastes like. Something was missing from this recipe...it tasted a bit bland. I'll give it another try, but next time I won't use as much butter, will put in some more garlic and at least double the cheese.

OH MY GAWD!! This was soooo good! We had high expectations after reading the reviews and the final result far exceeded the expectation. As luck would have it, we went to OG shortly after making this and they no longer had the dish we went for (Tuscan Chicken - any recipes for that one out there??) so we ordered the Alfredo Pasta. (Not good to eat again so soon, but...) There was no comparison - this TSR version was MUCH better. I used "real" Parmesan cheese, no salt and added grilled chicken and broccoli to make it healthy. ;)

The 'too salty' taste that Diana was talking about depends on whether or not your butter is salted. If you buy salted butter, you don't need to add extra salt. This recipe is awesome!

I thought this recipe was OK. I was really excited about making it due to the rave reviews of everyone else, but I was a little disappointed with the results because it tasted quite salty. I don't think I will make it again unless someone tells me that doubling the cheese and cutting out the salt makes this recipe heaven.

My hubs and I love this recipe! He asks for it once every other week. It is so like OG that no one that has tasted mine can tell the difference. I have only made three changes; 1) used about 3/4 of the stick of butter rather than the whole stick (otherwise your leftovers will look like they are swimming), 2) I used about 2 teaspoons of the already minced garlic and 3) used a full bag of parm cheese rather than the 1/2 cup it called for. Makes the dish much cheesier. :) This item has definately become a staple in my recipe book!!

I thought that this was very similar to Olive Garden. Although I used more cheese than it called for. I put about 2/3 to 3/4 more depends on how much cheese you like. I also put let garlic. I made it for my husband and did not tell him I made it and he thought I went to Olive Garden and bought it. It is a very good recipe.

I have made this recipe many times. It is so wonderful. I find sometime the sauce may be runny but not always. I let it sit a few minutes before serving helps. I add precooked shrimp heated in a little butter and minced galic. Oh so good.

This recipe is the best using heavy whipping cream and extra parmesan cheese, about 1 1/2 cups. My neighbor and I have made this numerous times and half and half is horrible and whipping cream is okay. However, heavy whipping cream is the best. Love this recipe! For those who want to reheat pasta with a cream sauce, just put some in a bowl, add a bit of milk and then microwave. Stir it up and the sauce should rebound. Not too much milk though! It's trial and error. I've always done this, for all non red sauces.

We are military living in England and we really miss all the chain restaurants in the states. This is the best!!! My family loves it and it is sooooo easy to make!!! It is not good re-heated though!!!

I make this recipe quite often. It is a little runny. You could make a roux if you want, but I do not. I use real garlic cloves, smashed, and freshly grated Romano cheese. Instead of using salt and pepper, I use a McCormick Steakhouse Grinder. It is a blend contaning salt, pepper, garlic, onion, red pepper and some others. It sounds funny to use the grinder, but it tastes so good!

Wow! I made this for a carry-in at work- and thought I would have whatever was left over for my dinner- but it was ALL GONE! (glad I got a taste at the carry-in!) I was so excited that it was such a hit- and SO EASY!!! As for the fat content- I figure as long as you don't eat alfredo every night- enjoy it when you can- the butter and cream is what makes it SO GOOD!

LOVED THIS RECIPE!!! We don't have an Olive Garden in our town and I crave their alfredo sauce. Sometimes I add cooked chicken or scallops. Yum, yum!

I bought Todd Wilbur's first book with the goal to cook every single recipe in it. I was a little disappointed in this recipe because it never did thicken. In my book, it only calls for 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, I ended up doubling that, which improved it to taste more like the original, I see now this site did that too. One day I added imitation lobster while heating it. That was really good.

My husband and I loved it. It tasts just like the real thing. The only thing is it is a little runny so I'm going to try corn starch to thicken it up.

Very good... but I cut out 1/2 cup of heavy cream and added 3 FRESH garlic cloves...it's that garlic oil that does it for me...along with a hint of basil!

This is really yummy, but because it's so fattening instead of butter I use Smart Balance. You can find in the grocery store. And I use fat-free half-and-half. Plus, I add shrimp. It is so good you can't even tell it's low fat.

I love this recipe. I actually use garlic powder, but it comes out the same. The only thing is when you reheat it, all you can taste is butter. However, when it is just cooked, it taste just like the real thing. I always double the recipe. YUMMY!

This is great stuff. I make it often but I usually fry a couple of boneless skinless breasts and dice them in to the sauce for an added kick.
