McDonald's Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce

This recipe clones one of the sauces you get with your order of McNuggets at the world's largest hamburger outlet. Now, instead of shoving a fistful of the little green packs into your backpack, you can make up a batch of your own to use as a dip for store bought nuggets, chicken fingers, fried shrimp, and tempura. It's a simple recipe that requires a food processor or a blender, and the sauce will keep well for some time in the fridge.

1/4 cup peach preserves
1/4 cup apricot preserves
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
5 teaspoons white vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons water

1. Combine all ingredients except the water in a food processor or a blender and puree until the mixture is smooth. 

2. Pour the mixture into a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the water, stir, and bring mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil for five minutes, stirring often. When the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Store the sauce in a covered container in the refrigerator.

Makes about 3/4 cup.

McDonald's sauce tastes processed, this is fresh and delicious. Who cares if it tastes "exactly" the same when this is better. I make an 8x batch with a full jar each of peach and apricot. Lasts well over a year without any trouble. Thanks Todd!

Very close! Add some crushed red pepper for that extra kick that McDonalds has.

This recipe is as close to McDonalds as it could be. If you follow the directions and use generic ingredients (no Smuckers here) you will be very happy.

Pineapple juice gives it the acid, less peach preserves, sub splash of pineapple juice.

My kids love McD's S&S sauce, so, I tried this recipe, and it was okay, but not quite good enough. I made it a second time, using just the apricot preserves (1/2 cup total, NO peach at all), 2 tsp more vinegar, a bit more garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp of Chinese five spice powder. NOW its good. :)

Wow! I was looking for a good sauce recipe, and this one seemed to have all the right ingredients, so I gave it a shot. Absolutely the best ever! I hadn't ever tried McD's so I grabbed a blister pack and compared them - the clone is much better (it doesn't have that creepy "processed" taste). Thanks, Todd.

I was disappointed with this recipe because I love McDonald's sweet & sour dipping sauce. In fact I ask for extras so I can take them home. This was missing some key ingredient or two that didn't quite taste like the original. I think it needs some more tweaking to make it taste like McDonald's.
